Telling it like it is

The opening of Simon Whitaker's piece "Nowhere to run" in today's Guardian commands attention:

There is a remarkable article in the latest issue of the American Jewish weekly, Forward. It calls for President Bush to be impeached and put on trial 'for misleading the American people, and launching the most foolish war since Emperor Augustus in 9 BC sent his legions into Germany and lost them'. To describe Iraq as the most foolish war of the last 2,014 years is a sweeping statement, but the writer is well qualified to know.

Much of the American population are still following Bush. The country is completely polarized, but no one is suggesting solutions, it just seems to be us vs them. What happens after Bush in the US?
How to fix the mess in Iraq. Its not just a foolish war, there seem to be no viable objectives. Its hard to tell if it would be better for the Iraqi people if the US stays or leaves at this point. If the US just pulls out, will it be more of a blood bath than it is now?

Think that Bush will take a leaf out of the Foreign office book, partition the country into two or three and then let them fight it out to create a sense of unity and identity?

The Kurds will come off badly, but it'd get America out of the region.

Right Alec, why should Bush create history when he can merely repeat it? He could even promise the Kurds autonomy and reneg on that too ;-)
