Call the men in white coats, no sharps

So Tom Cruise thinks he was a noted playwright in a prior life. What a raving loonie.....

"Shakespeare was deja vu for me," said Tom Cruise. "It was so cool. I felt as if I had seen his words already, knew them all by heart. Then, after I began studying scientology, I realized the words had come from my heart in a previous life. That's why I say that as glorious and enviable as my present life is, making 'War of the Worlds' and all those other great movies can't compare to writing 'Romeo and Juliet' or the sonnets."

Well, that final point is certainly true. But "glorious and enviable"??? Reminds me of Zaphod's line in HHGTTG: "If there's anything more important than my ego around, I want it caught and shot now!!"

It always amazes me that people who believe in prior lives often seem to think they were someone famous. Even if what Mr Cruise says was true, that he knew Shakespeare from a prior life, why would that necessarily mean he was Shakespeare, and not an all purpose understudy, a floor sweeper who picked up dialogue, or a mouse who lived under the stage at the Globe? When I worked in theaters doing costumes, props, dresser, prompter (once I even did hair!) I found I pretty much knew the entire play by the end of the run. When I was younger, I knew Romeo and Juliet from reading it, seeing Zefferelli's movie and my best friend at the time who knew the play from all angles. I even remember the music!

I am sure some envy him, but glorious?

Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
###
Gosh, maybe I was a seamstress listening to lines while mending costumes?

I think someone needs to challenge Mr. Cruise to a Shakespeare bee, maybe have him go through all the sonnets.
