This chart makes me really wonder about my fellow Americans. How is prisoner abuse a viable reason to go or not go to war?

Posted by: Susan in St. Paul at May 12, 2004 10:28 PMThe "reality" is that this is an unwinnable war, that things are getting worse, not better, and the only option is to pull out now. And that leads people to the conclusion that they should never have gone to war in the first place. ("If I'd known it was going to be like this, I wouldn't have come!")
The prisoner abuse may not be a direct reason for deciding about whether we should have gone to war. However it contributes powerfully to several of the swirling subtexts that we've been dealing with. It reinforces the sense of chaos and hopelessness. Also the fact that it seems to have occurred with official connivance, and that lack of rudimentary training may also have been a factor, may lead people to question the veracity, morality, and prudence of the government that took us to war.
